Getting Creative for Halloween

-->
-->
            Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love the excitement of getting dressed up and going out to parties to hang out with friends. I am not into cliché costumes, but I like to come up with creative, one of a kind ensembles. This means I generally stay away from packaged costumes store-bought costumes or I at least modify and embellish them to suit my own needs. I’ve had some great ideas and a lot of fun making them happen.
            This year my costume is a tongue twister, She Sells Sea Shells by the Sea Shore. I am wearing beachcomber attire complete with my Sea Shell bucket/purse. I hot glued dozens of seashells to an ice cream bucket and placed a price tag on the outside. It is definitely an original and a hilarious play on my name.
            The seashell bucket took a lot of time to make, but there is plenty you can do if you do not have time. One idea I’ll share is Balls to the Wall. You can stick several small balls—golf, tennis, ping pong, etc.— to a shirt and stand by a wall all night. You could also be a Steam Pot or Just Letting off Some Steam. Just dress in a silver body suit with decorated pillbox style hat and decorate one arm for the handle. Another simple idea is to wear an orange shirt with a pi symbol and you’ll be pumpkin pie. These types of ideas are great for people who do not necessarily like dressing up for Halloween because they don’t like taking the effort. One year I decided I would be Annie Oakley, even though in hindsight I don’t think I looked like the gunslinger. I put on a flowy gauze brown skirt and a denim corset top. I found a cowboy hat at the last minute and I was good to go. The trick to a good Halloween costume is to come up with a plan and stick to it. Because I told people I was Annie Oakley no one questioned me.
