Quite the News Day: Duchess Prank and Supreme Court

What a news day! Even though I am out of the broadcast business I still get excited over relevant news. So much of what goes on the air in local television markets is stories that are of little importance to normal people. They are often small stories that the gate keepers build up to make them seem very relevant and far reaching, and in Indiana they always find a local tie. Today someone was likely tasked with trying to find out if the nurse who committed suicide in the Duchess prank call scandal ever traveled to Indiana or ate a pork tenderloin sandwich. Their job is a little easier with finding a local connection to the story on the Supreme Court deciding to hear a case on same-sex marriage. The prank call scandal and the same-sex marriage stories are issues that will be talked about for weeks to come. In the prank call scandal, what was once a savy trick by a gossip monger to get information on Catherine's hospital status has turned into an international tragedy with the death of the nurse who was duped into giving out information on Catherine's condition. The Supreme Court taking up gay marriage is a move that has been long overdue. The issue of legalizing gay marriage and subsequent legal challenges has been making headlines for years. Perhaps a decision will finally put the controversy to rest.
