Movie review: Mud

Mud

Directed by: Jeff Nichols
Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Tye Sheridan, Reece Witherspoon

Rating: B

This is a movie about love and life on the southern bayou as a boy is coming of age. He learns lessons along the way by watching the failures of those around him. 14-year-old Ellis feels a bond between himself and Mud and that closeness is due to Ellis' parents are splitting up. Ellis believes the bad things Mud has done in life have been because of love; acting out of love is the common denominator. There is complex character development and a few surprises through the storyline. This movie was very enjoyable, but those who have shorter attention spans may not like it as much. The plot line moves along, but there isn't much for action (save for a punch here or there) until the end.
