Fashion Police, Literally

Baggy, saggy pants bother many people. My opinion is that extremely baggy pants look sloppy and when wearing them you look as though you do not respect yourself. No one will take you seriously if you are dressed that way. I think there should be some sort of crackdown on pants that are not worn on the waist, hips or butt, but a law? It happened. According to Yahoo! News, an ordinance is slated to take effect in Cocoa, Florida on January 1, 2013 that will outlaw wearing clothing too low. The language of the ordinance prevents a, "person in public view from wearing pants or skirts below the waistline that expose the undergarments or the skin…." Members of the city council say they passed the ban to increase civility in their “family oriented” town. The ordinance will be enforced with a three-strike policy. Violators will pay $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second, and $100 for every additional offense. However, critics say it is just a veil for additional “stop and frisk” activities by the police. They say this constitutes as further harassment of young people. I can’t imagine thinking baggy pants, which physically hurt no one, are so bothersome that they need to be outlawed. What ever happened to minding your own business? If you don’t like them, don’t wear them and don’t condone them on anyone in your family. I think parental involvement is the real way to deal with the issue. It should not be up to a law enforcement officer to determine how children dress. It should be left up to the community to decide.
