This is a pleasantly entertaining story of beating the odds set in the culinary world of France. A family is forced out of India and relocates to France with the dream of opening their family restaurant. The characters are believable and it is easy to come to love or hate them for their circumstances, depending on the character. However, just when you think you know who the bad guy is the plot thickens, so to speak. This is not a predictable tale. Sure, we think we know who will succeed, but it is an unlikely path.
This movie is heartwarming, surprising, and charming, everything I thought it would be. While I decided the movie would be an interesting one on my own, sometimes the names that are attached to a movie can influence others. While this is a seemingly independent film, it is actually produced by Spielberg and Oprah. I was a little surprised by this. Money and names make people notice. It can also make a movie happen that otherwise wouldn’t have had a chance.
